Job Description:

The Fleet Science Center is San Diego’s only interactive science center and home to the world’s first Giant IMAX Dome Theater. With more than 400,000 visitors annually, we’re proud to be the most visited museum in Balboa Park. The Fleet opened in 1973 and is now evolving into a dynamic county-wide organization dedicated to building and supporting communities rich in science learning. We are poised to expand and move in a new direction.

THE JOB:

We are on a quest to find a dynamic, passionate individual to be a part of our expanding Development Department as the Director of Donor Relations. This position will give you the opportunity to use your initiative to develop creative strategies to achieve the department’s goals. This position actively supports our mission and goals by:

* Managing and growing the Fleet’s Luminary Society individual giving program for annual gifts.

* Managing and growing the Fleet’s planned giving program.

* Maintaining and managing a substantial portfolio of individual giving prospects and donors.

* Developing and achieving fundraising and donor prospect engagement goals and strategies.

* Working in collaboration with the Development team and serving as the staff officer to the Board Development Committee.

* Ensuring meaningful and timely donor acknowledgement, recognition, stewardship, accountability and reporting.

Experience and Skills:

WHAT YOU NEED:

If you are the ideal candidate, you will be a driver of change and passionate about creating new and innovative ways to engage individual donors in the Fleet’s programs and initiatives. In addition you will have:

* 5 to 7 years of experience successfully managing multiple aspects of an individual giving program, including special events, direct response, major gifts and planned giving.

* Ability to effectively interface and build relationships with the Fleet’s executive and volunteer leadership, prospects and donors.

* Ability to understand the needs and interest of major gift and planned giving donors.

* Successful track record of volunteer engagement and management.

* Ability to interact with and represent the organization’s mission effectively to high potential prospects and donors of diverse constituents, and the public.

* Experience in securing $10,000+ contributions.

* A bachelor’s degree or commensurate work experience.

* Proficiency in MS Office and Raiser’s Edge

* Previous experience in science, engineering or technology-related areas is preferred.
