Job Description:

The Fleet Science Center is San Diego’s only interactive science center and home to the world’s first Giant IMAX Dome Theater. With more than 400,000 visitors annually, we’re proud to be the most visited museum in Balboa Park. The Fleet opened in 1973 and is now evolving into a dynamic county-wide organization dedicated to building and supporting communities rich in science learning. We connect people of all ages to the possibilities and power of science to create a better future.

We are a vibrant non-profit looking for an amazing Director of Marketing & Communications who will develop and implement creative marketing initiatives that build visibility and increase audience for the Fleet’s diverse offerings. (We’re much more than a science center!) You’re quick to come up with a clever tagline and diligent when you design a marketing campaign. You’re equally comfortable writing a radio spot, directing a photo shoot, selecting outdoor advertising locations and planning a premiere party. You’re detail oriented, but you never lose sight of the big picture. In this position, you will:

  • Direct multi-channel marketing efforts from concept through execution.
  • Facilitate the creation of awesome advertising, marketing and promotional content.
  • Adhere to stringent brand guidelines when required but push creative boundaries when needed.
  • Analyze and evaluate the results of marketing and advertising efforts and implement changes to capitalize on successes.
  • Manage and mentor a small but mighty team of marketers and designers.
  • Work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the success of the Fleet’s initiatives.

Experience and Skills:

If you are the ideal candidate, you will balance creative passion with strategic thinking as you maximize marketing effectiveness. And you’ll have fun while you’re doing it!

In addition, you will possess:

  • Stellar written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • A keen eye for good design.
  • Knowledge of and comfort with the evolving media landscape and media consumption habits.
  • The ability to happily juggle multiple initiatives.
  • A minimum of three to five years of direct experience in creating and managing advertising and marketing campaigns and related budgets.
  • A BA/BS in marketing or a related field from an accredited university.
