Job Description:

The Fleet Science Center is San Diego’s only interactive science center and home to the world’s first Giant IMAXÒ Dome Theater. With more than 400,000 visitors annually, we’re proud to be the most visited museum in Balboa Park. The Fleet opened in 1973 and is now evolving into a dynamic county-wide organization dedicated to building and supporting communities rich in science learning. We connect people of all ages to the possibilities and power of science to create a better future.


We are looking for a creative entry to mid-level level graphic designer, a team player, who has experience working on print publication, signage fabrication, electronic/social media and web design. Our new Graphic Designer will interpret our internal clients’ needs and creates solutions with high visual impact. This is a part-time position that actively supports our mission and goals by:

  • Working closely with the Multimedia Services Director to maintain and protect the Fleet Brand Guide
  • Assists in design projects, including defining budget constraints, planning the design concept, determining print materials and production options, coordinating with vendors, presenting designs to the client, making revisions based on client feedback and meeting the project timeline.
  • Design, produces, prints and install large format material.
  • Redefine designs within the constraints of cost and time.
  • Working independently and as part of a team.

Experience and Skills:


If you are the ideal candidate you will have:

  • A passion for our mission and can collaborate your ideas with our team.
  • A minimum of two-years in graphic design or a related field.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry-leading software and technology Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.)
  • Basic HTML coding.
  • Familiar with electronic marketing tools, such as Constant Contact and Mail Chimp.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates results-driven design skills in advertising, marketing, print layout, and photography. With proven creativity in the graphic design field (please submit a link to online portfolio).
  • Ability to be flexible, adapt to change and work with adjusted deadlines.
  • Experience with Constant Contact and MailChimp is a plus but not necessary.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills, both written and spoken English.
