Job Description:


The Fleet Science Center is San Diego’s only interactive science center and home to the world’s first Giant IMAX Dome Theater. With more than 400,000 visitors annually, we’re proud to be the most visited museum in Balboa Park. The Fleet opened in 1973 and is now evolving into a dynamic county-wide organization dedicated to building and supporting communities rich in science learning. We connect people of all ages to the possibilities and power of science to create a better future. 


We are looking for an outgoing STEM and community loving person to be part of the team connecting people to the possibilities and power of science. Our new Community Initiatives Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Education Department, local organizations and communities. This position actively supports our mission and goals by: 

· Providing administrative support related to the San Diego STEM Ecosystem and Fleet Science Center community engagement initiatives. 

· Assisting in maintaining communications and relationships among the region’s diverse business, education, scientific, and community-based organizations 

· Managing, engaging and promoting the San Diego STEM Ecosystem website 

· Contributing to and coordinating production of website blogs and monthly newsletters 

· Assisting with data collection, evaluation, process tracking and reporting 


Experience and Skills:


Ideal candidates are collaborators for change, passionate and creative about communications, and focused on access and equity in STEM education. In addition, you will have: 

· A passion for our mission 

· Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a diverse population at all levels in organizations - in person, over the telephone and in writing 

· Composition, proofing and editing skills, including the ability to summarize discussions in the preparation of meeting minutes. 

· Strong administrative, organizational and time-management skills 

· Experience in planning/coordinating logistics for meetings and activities 

· Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
