Job Description:

The Fleet Science Center is San Diego’s only interactive science center and home to the world’s first Giant IMAX Dome Theater. With more than 400,000 visitors annually, we’re proud to be the most visited museum in Balboa Park. The Fleet opened in 1973 and is now evolving into a dynamic county-wide organization dedicated to building and supporting communities rich in science learning. We are poised to expand and move in a new direction.


We are looking for an outgoing and detail-oriented person to fill our new Special Events Coordinator position! Our Special Events Coordinator will perform general department administrative duties and take part in special event bookings and planning. This individual will also work with our team to plan and execute events to support our marketing, education and development efforts. This position actively supports our mission and goals by:

  • Supporting the team by handling administrative duties.
  • Representing the Special Events department at all required meetings.
  • Booking, collecting payment, planning and coordinating birthday parties.
  • Perform site visits and visitor/vendor walk-throughs as needed.
  • Working a varied schedule, including evening and weekend hours, as needed.

Compensation: $17.00/hour



Experience and Skills:


If you are the ideal candidate, you will love working with people and have a good understanding of using Microsoft Office Suite. In addition you will have:

  • A passion for our mission.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a clerical, administrative assistant or general sales role.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management and spelling skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of San Diego convention market and/or hotel convention sales preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Intermediate to advance knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) preferred.
