Job Description:

The Fleet Science Center is San Diego’s only interactive science center and is the most visited museum in Balboa Park. The Fleet is also a dynamic county-wide organization dedicated to supporting communities with STEM resources and science activities. We connect people of all ages to the possibilities and power of science to create a better future.

THE JOB:

We are looking for a bilingual, outgoing activist in the San Diego community to listen to needs and hopes and inform our ongoing community efforts. Our Neighborhood Engagement Lead will bring partners together to engage diverse audiences in order to maximize the Fleet’s impact across the county. This position actively supports our mission and goals by:

  • Creating and maintaining productive partnerships with external organizations, such as community-based organizations, schools, after-school networks, libraries and local businesses
  • Informing the community engagement strategies to broaden the reach and improve the service of the Fleet and partner programs
  • Leading the implementation, co-development and evaluation of community programs that promote science learning for both children and adults

  • A passion for connecting people to science
  • Experience with community organizing and stewarding community relationships
  • A passion for STEM disciplines and the benefits they can offer for communities
  • The ability to easily communicate in English and Spanish (bilingual)
  • 2+ years of experience &/or training in community organizing or a related discipline
  • Lots of creativity and a dynamic personality
